Dog Training - The Jump Command
This time Aurora and I are practicing the Jump Command. Since we’re doing this at home we don’t have a real hurdle, but instead we use two cones to build a hurdle. It doesn’t have to be very high; at the moment it’s more important to learn the commands.
For warming up we just jump a couple of times not using any commands. Then we start with the sit and stay in front of the hurdle. I move to the other side of the hurdle and give the “jump” command, and then “come” to get her to sit at my left side. The next exercise we do is to command Aurora forward over the hurdle, i.e. sit and stay in front of the hurdle while I stay put and give the “jump” command.
When these two exercises works well we will extend the second exercise with a “sit” command after the jump, and then a new “jump” command to get her to jump and come back to me. That will be something for us to work on for the next few weeks!
