Bicycle Trip with the Doxies

Here’s a short version of one of our bicycle trips last summer. The trip took place on the mountain roads near Fagerli. The full documentary version of the trip is coming very soon to this blog! Stay tuned!

On the search for a Hot Dog!

It is due time to update the blog! The winter is really not the favorite season for obedience training; the doxies simply think it’s too cold to lie down in the snow when it’s -10 C, the paws get really cold too!
Instead we try to do some alternative training like skiing, following tracks from deer or rabbit and snuggling in front of the fireplace! Searching for pieces of Hot Dogs in the snow is also a popular activity! ;-)
Here a couple of studies of Aurora and Frøya on the quest for Hot Dogs in the backyard!
:-D

sporpremie
Viser stolt frem premien!

Leash Training

Here’s Frøya trying to learn how to walk on a leash. Leash training is pretty basic; still it is not that easy to learn! First of all it’s essential that the doxie pays attention to you - and not all the others that may be all around you! Treats or toys are usually good ways to get attention! Once you have the doxies attention you give the command for walking, e.g. “foot”, and then start walking - left leg first. You always start with the left leg when you want the dog to follow you, and remember to reward often! Changing the tempo between normal walk, fast walk and slow walk also help keeping the dogs attention on you. The same goes for right and left turns, or even a full turn. You should not give any commands when making turns, only when you change the tempo. When you stop, the dog shall sit down without any command - use treats when practicing this! ;-)
